Gaza conflict
ShelterBox is responding to provide emergency shelter and other essential items for people left with nowhere to live.
The news of a ceasefire in Gaza offers hope to more than two million Palestinians who have endured months of intense conflict and hardship.
1.4 million people urgently need support. ShelterBox and our partners are ready to provide emergency shelter to thousands of families as soon as access is granted.
People in Gaza have been trapped, with nowhere safe to go, nowhere to live, and little to eat.
Aid must flow freely to prevent further trauma, famine, violence, and loss of life.
Almost two million people are currently displaced across Gaza. With famine looming, many continue to be displaced repeatedly—often with no adequate shelters left to move to. Nine in ten people in Gaza have already been displaced at least once. Now, there are even fewer places left to go.
Thousands of people are fleeing again under ongoing airstrikes and calls to move civilians from Gaza City to “safe zones” in the south. Many are walking, carrying what little they have—but not everyone can leave. Those who are injured, elderly, or disabled often have no choice but to stay behind. People are starving, and nowhere is truly safe.
Since October 2023, more than 90% of homes in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed, and much of the region’s farmland has been decimated. Communities are now almost entirely dependent on humanitarian assistance. Civilians continue to face grave danger, and the protection of people and essential infrastructure—such as humanitarian warehouses, medical facilities, and water systems—remains critical.
The lives and human rights of all civilians, including those living in Gaza and the remaining hostages, must be protected.
Humanitarian access has been extremely limited for months, restricting the flow of vital aid. In May, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) was designated as the coordinating body for aid distribution within the territory. Despite some progress in allowing shelter materials like tents to enter, most aid supplies remain blocked. Many humanitarian organizations, including ShelterBox, still face severe access challenges.
This ongoing humanitarian crisis continues to unfold before the eyes of the world. We must not look away—and we must keep advocating for safe, unhindered access to aid for those who need it most.

The Gaza strip is in western Asia. To the north and east it is bordered by Israel. Egypt can be found to the south. The western border faces on to the Mediterranean Sea.
Gaza is one of the most densely populated pieces of land on Earth. 2.3 million people live on the narrow strip of land, measuring 141sq miles (41km long / 10km wide). Since 7 October 2023, 80% of homes here have been damaged or destroyed. It is thought the Gaza may be vulnerable to climate change, particularly through rising sea levels.
