Impact stories
Every family has a story; see how your support transforms lives after disaster.
In 2025, we marked 25 years of ShelterBox.
Since we were founded in 2000, more than three million people have received emergency shelter and essential aid. That progress is only possible because of you, our supporters, volunteers, Rotary partners, and communities around the world who believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home after disaster.

where ShelterBox has provided assistance in 2025 – from Afghanistan to Yemen.
In 2025, powerful earthquakes, extreme storms, and severe flooding displaced hundreds of thousands of people across multiple regions. Thanks to pre-positioned aid and strong local partnerships, ShelterBox was able to respond quickly when families needed support most.
Myanmar: Following the strongest earthquake in over a century, we worked with local partners to help thousands of families repair damaged homes in rural communities, despite heavy rains and ongoing conflict.
Pakistan: Unusually heavy monsoon flooding left communities underwater. Together with Islamic Relief Pakistan, we delivered tents, tarpaulins, blankets, solar lights, hygiene kits, and kitchen sets, while also creating paid debris-clearing work for local residents.
Afghanistan: A series of powerful earthquakes flattened remote mountain villages. Because preparedness plans were already in place, we quickly provided winter tents, clothing, stoves, blankets, and essential household items in partnership with Islamic Relief Afghanistan.
Philippines: Storms and earthquakes struck during typhoon season, leaving hundreds of thousands without shelter. Working with FACE Inc. and Rotary partners, we supported families to rebuild stronger homes and repair damaged structures.
Jamaica: With aid stored in Barbados and Panama, we were ready to respond to Hurricane Melissa, supporting up to 10,000 people alongside Food for the Poor and Rotary partners.
While responding to sudden disasters, ShelterBox also continued working in some of the world’s most complex and overlooked humanitarian crises, places where conflict, political instability, and climate extremes make recovery especially difficult.
Gaza: Ongoing displacement and restricted access continue to present major challenges. Thousands of tents and aid items remain ready for delivery as soon as conditions allow safe entry.
Chad: Nearly a million people have fled conflict in neighboring Sudan since 2023. Working with local partners, we provided tarpaulins, tools, solar lights, mosquito nets, and kitchen sets, while also supporting families to build longer-lasting mudbrick shelters.
Cameroon, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, and Somalia: Communities in these regions continue to face cycles of drought, flooding, and instability that rarely make headlines. With partner support, ShelterBox remains present, delivering shelter materials and essential household items where needs are greatest.
In protracted crises, emergency shelter is only the first step. Throughout 2025, ShelterBox continued investing in longer-term recovery solutions, including durable and transitional shelters, shelter repair kits, and community-driven rebuilding projects.
In Somalia, a multi-year partnership launched in late 2024 continued through 2025, delivering thousands of shelter solutions ranging from emergency kits to durable mudbrick homes designed to withstand heat and flooding. These projects also created paid work within camps and improved access to sanitation and water infrastructure, helping families rebuild with greater dignity and stability.

Somalia continues to face one of the world’s most severe and prolonged humanitarian crises. Years of conflict, economic instability, and repeated climate shocks have left millions of people displaced and living in overcrowded camps with limited access to safe shelter.
In late 2024, ShelterBox launched a three-year partnership with the Juba Foundation to support tens of thousands of displaced families with emergency shelter kits, transitional shelters, and more durable homes designed to withstand flooding and extreme heat. The project also creates paid work opportunities within camps and expands space for latrines and water stations, helping strengthen community infrastructure alongside shelter support.
In the first year of the project, we have:
Built 650 basic shelters in Baidoa using wooden frames, tarpaulin walls, and raised flood-resistant bases
Built 200 strengthened shelters in Baidoa with reinforced wooden frames, lined walls, and solid plinths that families can upgrade over time
Built 130 durable mudbrick shelters in Dollow that stay cooler in extreme heat and offer longer-term protection
Delivered 1,500 shelter repair kits to families in Baladweyne following flash floods
Impact so far:
15,400 people supported
53% women and girls
Families have shared that they feel safer, more protected from the elements, and better able to focus on rebuilding their lives. In Dollow, communities that were initially uncertain about mudbrick shelters now recommend them after seeing how well they withstand heavy rains and intense heat.
Because of you, families facing disaster are not left to recover alone.
Every shelter delivered, every repair kit distributed, and every partnership strengthened brings people one step closer to safety, stability, and hope.
