Umm and her family lost their home when a plane bombed their village in Syria. “Two rockets fell next to us. We fled from our house and took refuge in a cave.” They brought only the items they could carry. “We left without anything because I thought we would be back.”

Umm and her family would not return home. They now live in a crowded camp in northern Syria, facing the threat of coronavirus. “Life is hard here. The children are always in the tent to prevent them from getting sick.”

After their arrival, they received a shelter kit with tarps, tools, and other household materials.

Now that Umm’s family has a home with blankets and clothing to keep warm, Umm can focus on the future. “We must build our lives again from the beginning. We will try to earn money to replace this tent with a stone building to live in.”

The kit helped us a lot. We used to feel cold and sleep on the ground and on stones in the tent. Now, we sleep and sit on the mattress. The blankets are good for keeping warm with our children.”
