Tropical Storm Trami and Super Typhoon Man-yi in the Philippines

ShelterBox is supporting people across the Philippines with emergency shelter after six major storms made landfall in less than a month.

What is happening in the Philippines?

People in the Philippines are facing an exceptionally challenging typhoon season, with six major storms devastating parts of the country in less than a month.

Each storm has brought more heavy rains, strong winds, and flooding to already affected areas. This has caused more damage and made the recovery much more difficult.

Large areas remain waterlogged and the typhoon season is not over yet. More extreme weather is expected in the coming months and emergency shelter will be crucial for families to protect themselves.

Thanks to the kindness of our supporters, we’re helping people in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and many more. Please donate now to provide vital support for families who have lost their homes to disaster around the world.

Tropical Storm Trami

On October 24th, Tropical Storm Trami swept through the Philippines.

More than two months of rain fell in just one day, causing severe flooding and landslides. Almost a million people have been displaced as their homes have been washed away or buried.

We will be supporting people with items like tarpaulins, corrugated iron sheeting, tools, nails, rope, and blankets. They will be distributed by our partners and support people as they begin to repair and rebuild their homes.

A small amount of cash will assist people, so they have the option to pay for local builders and buy other essential items.

Super Typhoon Man-yi

On November 16th, Super Typhoon Man-yi made landfall.

Our team in the Philippines is currently visiting the areas most affected by the typhoon.

We know that thousands of people are unable to relocate from waterlogged areas and so we will be looking at how we can best support people to rebuild their homes at height.

How is ShelterBox helping?

ShelterBox supports thousands of people with emergency shelter.

We are partnering with a local organization called the Federation of Associations for Communities and Children’s Empowerment Inc. (FACE Inc) to support people affected by Tropical Storm Trami.

Tarpaulins, corrugated iron sheeting, tools, nails, and ropes are all items that will help to make homes stronger. Cash assistance will also help people to pay for local builders and buy other essential items.

Our team is currently visiting the areas most affected by Super Typhoon Man-yi to understand what support is needed.

Has ShelterBox responded in the Philippines before?

We have a team permanently based in the Philippines and emergency shelter aid pre-positioned in Cebu because of how prone the country is to extreme weather and earthquakes.

It means we are well-prepared to respond to tropical storms and other disasters.
